The discovery, extraction, production, distribution and consumption of oil result in a variety of health and environmental hazards and costs. The majority of these costs are never claimed, or repaid, by the oil industry. Instead, society is expected to pay for these costs financially, and with its health. Oil consumption is directly responsible for air pollution, increased agricultural costs, water and land pollution, and global warming.
